Now that you’re thinking about getting your own estate organized, do you know what you need to know about your parents and your in-laws? Does the thought of bringing that up sound incredibly awkward?!
Remember when asking the “grown ups” in your life about their estate plan, you’re not asking for anything that’s none of your business. You’re not asking to know what’s in their will or in their bank account; what you need is to know whether they have a will, living will, and power of attorney, and where the documents are located. Some may also have long-term care insurance, and that’s important for you to know as well. It’s a good idea to know the names of the key professionals: who is their attorney, financial advisor, insurance agent, banker, and doctor?
